We started off at 11:15am onto Highway 101. We didn't know how the terrain and traffic would be like. It started off well, nice tailwind and a wide shoulder. We pedaled hard to Eureka. There was a lot of wind at Eureka, right by the ocean! There were big trees to shelter you from the wind but it was strong! We just kept going and flew down the highway! The tailwind was great and we were riding lalala:-)!
We stopped for a break at a nice corner near Fortuna. What a busy corner. In less than 15 minutes, we met another group of 4 girls going to San Francisco and a couple cyclists heading towards the countryside, a driver just finishing some house sitting and a lady picking flowers! A busy place! We finished lunch and headed back onto the Highway for the Avenue of Giants, the famous road through the Redwoods!
It was beautiful! We went through 25 km of huge trees in the forest! We ended up at Myers Flats. We did our grocery shopping and Patrizia started talking to a nice guy with a dog outside the store. He turned out to be the pub owner in town and he was very nice.
There were 2 guys with no tent and no room at the inn so this guy offered them his trailer to stay in! So nice. The woman from the store gave us the Facebook address for the pub owner who also spent WWII in Italy! We ended up at a nice campground with wifi. So we're in the bathroom loading up all the pictures from today and the last couple of days!
