La Ferrovia Retica del Bernina - The Rhaetian Railway is one of the most famous European narrow gauge railway lines.  The train connects Chur in Switzerland to Poschiavo in Switzerland and Tirano in Italy by crossing the Swiss Engadin Alps.

The Bernina Express forms only part of the Rhaetian Railway offering  panoramic sightseeing that  runs all year round, offering a completely different experience through all seasons!

In the early month of December we did our fabulous adventure with the Bernina Express - the famous red train traveling  in both directions (two ways of view from the windows)!

The journey began from Tirano is a town in Valtellina, located in the province of Sondrio (429 m), then we continued to the Bernina Pass, a high mountain pass in the Bernina Range of the Alps, (2.253 m) after which we passed Brusio situated in the magnific valley to the Engadine. At Engine there is a spiral viaduct, a single track on the Bernina railway. In this section the train goes over and through 52 bridges and 13 tunnels and finally the last stage ends at St Moritz, an Alpine resort (1800 m) in the Swiss alps.

In our journey we were very lucky to have cars in both directions and on the return carriage there was only us as the only tourists like a private sightseeing tour enjoying the spectacular views in the different directions in any space of the cars. Wow how lucky we were!

This trip offers some of the most extraordinary scenic places across the Alps.

An ideal route to enjoy breathtaking  natural alpine landscapes such as:  Green areas, alpine villages on vertiginous viaducts, forests, lakes, quick climbs, spiral tunnels, ice, snow and  the white on majestic mountains and much more.

There was plenty of opportunities to take photos - the train also stopped for 15 minutes at a high point to get out and visit the villages or for opportunities to take photos.

I only iI have to say: Just a breathtaking postcard Journey!!
