BLOG I DAY 29 I  ITALY'S FOUR SEAS: A cycle tour along the Italian peninsula

October 12, 2023  Volano di Codigaro (FE), Emilia-Romagna - Venezia, Veneto -  San Donà di Piave, Veneto  I  156 Km

This morning at 6:00 I was already awake but I would have to wait until 7:30 for breakfast to be served and so I took a walk under a foggy sky surrounded by a breathtaking landscape where nature reigns supreme, following a path that starts right from the farmhouse in the marshes with walkways and observation points for bird watching. I saw birds, herons, ducks, fish, egrets, etc but I hadn't seen pink flamingos. In this area for those who love being outdoors there is so much to discover whether by bike, on foot, aboard silent boats and even horseback excursions and it is truly a wonderful place even with the morning fog!

Then, at 7:30 am he was one of the first people to have breakfast and as soon as I sat down at the table they immediately served me the cappuccino I had ordered and in the air there was the scent of freshly baked cakes and the meticulously organized buffet with an excellent presentation of dishes characterize the rich breakfast buffet by offering a wide variety of foods to satisfy every different taste and preference. It was truly an endless choice and it was a good start to the morning with a lot of energy after finishing breakfast! What more can I say? The atmosphere was lovely, the food was good including the cakes and the service was excellent and it is a place I would highly recommend and it is a point where you can see many other places in the surrounding area.

The first stretch - Then I went back to my room, a room with an antique style each one different from the next and in the Hotel Oasi Cannevié has 17 rooms with what the person at the front desk had told me last night.

Having taken the bicycle back from the bicycle storage room, the bicycle I had seen last night was still there and after having loaded the bags onto the bicycle I left the nature oasis with the noise of the birds that were in a tree.

The second stretch - I had taken the road with little traffic with little visibility back home in the fog with signs for Venice passing through Mesola, and then I had met the road sign indicating that I was leaving the Emilia-Romagna region and entering the Veneto region passing through Taglio di Po' is a municipality in the Province of Rovigo, a region of Veneto and is the border between Emilia-Romagna and Veneto. At this point the Po river flows into the Adriatic Sea. after crossing the bridge the EV8 cycle route ran: Eurovelo 7 - Ciclovia del Medditterneo - part 7 which would have taken me to Venice via various ferry connections but they would have taken too much time and I also didn't know if they passed frequently since it was in the period of low season.

The second stretch - So I continued cycling on the SS 309 Romea road where I had seen other cyclists but it was really busy and noisy to then arrive in Mestre is an area that connects with central Venice by road and rail across the Ponte della Liberta/Liberty Bridge. From Mestre there is a good circuit of cycle paths that lead to cycling across the Liberta Bridge over the Venice Lagoon. In the historic center it is entirely pedestrian, the use of bicycles or other cycles is not allowed, not even if driven by hand but there is a BiciPark inside which provides a bicycle parking service for those who wish to venture on foot into the beautiful Venice. However, it is allowed to ride the bicycle by hand, in the sections near the train station and in the vicinity of a bridge where you can see the gondolas etc.

IIn my case I had already seen Venice on another cycling trip but also on other occasions and this stop had only been for a coffee break and then while I was looking at the gondolas and ferries passing by there was a stall selling drinks and I had taken a drinking coke while watching the surroundings - the gondolas passing in the canal with the gondoliers, dressed in traditional clothes and explaining to the tourists who were sitting on black leather sofa chairs. Achio I had had that experience in the past and it's really something I recommend, the gondoliers give you information in addition to the gondola ride and it's really worth it!

Then, other small inbarations sailed into the lagoon and while I was there, people were walking everywhere. While I was taking some photographs two gondoliers had kindly asked me if I wanted a photograph, they would have taken it for me with my iPhone, they had taken some beautiful photographs, thank you very much Gondoliers! After a chat I said goodbye to them and cycled the same way but vice versa.

Having arrived in Mestre I had followed cycle paths and low-traffic roads passing through the town of Favero Veneto then on the München-Venice cycle route with countryside landscapes and finally another road with low car traffic and finally my last stop of the day in the town of San Donà di Piave, is a city and comune in the Metropolitan City of Venice, Veneto.

While I was looking around in a small square in the city center I asked a group of women who were walking around if they could recommend me accommodation, recommending the Hotel Forte del 48 which is nearby. After thanking them, I arrived at the hotel and was greeted by the nice guy at the front desk who made me put my bicycle in the conference room and then went up to my room.

The last leg - After getting settled in my room and taking a shower I walked around the area and then returned to the hotel which also had a restaurant with excellent service and the fried seafood platter was excellent including the mixed salad. Then while she passed by the front desk there was the owner's son named Ludovico with his father, two excellent, very friendly people and after greeting them I went up to the room and after my evening rotine and looked at Gogle map to get a; idea of my route for tomorrow and tomorrow will be the final day of my trip and what a beautiful trip!
