We left Pacifica early today, at 10:30am. It was a beautiful morning, sunny and warm. We headed off towards Montara and had the first hill of the day. There wasn't any shoulder and traffic was a little heavy. We got through the climb and then headed towards Half Moon Bay. Traffic was a lot less here and the road was a lot flatter.
The highway is called Cabrillo here but it's still Highway 1. We were rewarded with a very long stretch of flat through farmland, mostly plants, not a lot of farm animals. The vegetation was really neat, some pretty local flowery plants that had cactus like leaves but no thorns.
The ocean is very close and it must be nice to have farmland right next to the beach. We didn't see any cyclists until later. We finally saw one cyclist on a recumbent bike! First time to see that type of bike on this trip! We also met a nice lady who told us that we had just passed the biggest hill and the next section is like a roller coaster. She was right but it wasn't for long.
We stopped for lunch at Pescadore Beach. It was a nice beach and park and we were very relaxed with the beautiful view of the ocean and birds on the rocks. They were pelicans! Very cute birds!
We headed off towards Davenport, not many towns in between but lots of beaches. We saw surfers on boards with parsails surfing. They were amazing. The road was nice and flat for the most part so we made a lot more progress.
We then went into Santa Cruz and the traffic was very heavy so we went onto the bike route into the main part of the city and then into the next town, Alto.
We ended up at a KOA campground between Santa Cruz and Monterey. We had a lot of fun touring around the campground!
