We woke up to a hot, sunny morning at the Olema Campgound. Ellie was too hot so she got up earlier but Patrizia stayed in the tent ( was not 2 hot it could be more), eheh!!! She's got hot Italian blood so she's used to the California heat! We left at 11am and we were excited because we are so close to San Francisco.
The road out of Olema back onto the highway was very rough and bumpy. And there are many local cyclists riding this route. They are all on fancy racing bikes and have flashy bicycle clothing. We didn't see hardly any bikes with panniers. The road got a lot better as we rode into Fairfax. We then started to take a bike route through Sausolito onto the Golden Gate Bridge. It got very busy in Sausolito, we rode right along the water through the main tourist area. Lots of popular restaurants and attractions along this road.
We followed a bike path onto the bridge and wow, was it crowded! Pedestrians on one side of the bridge and cyclists on the other. We couldn't believe how many tourists ride bikes on the bridge and local riders racing along the bridge bike path! This is not a good combination of cyclists so you have to be aware of everything around you when you're on the bridge! No tolls are charged to cyclists, which is nice. We got to the end of the bridge and it was full of people! It was definitely a popular spot for tourists!
We rode onto Lincoln Boulevard and then cycled into the Golden Gate park area. That led us into the Lincoln Park neighbourhood which had the typical San Francisco houses! It was very neat! We then started onto the Great Highway along the coast just outside of San Francisco. We didn't have to travel through the city which was good for us because we weren't planning to stay there.
We rode along the coast, so close to the beach that sand lined the shoulder of the rode. We ended up on Highway 35 into Daly City and then onto Pacifica which is where we are staying tonight.
There is a nice pier here and people are fishing later at night to try and catch some mackeral type of fish. We watched the sunset on the ocean and now, we're back at the Pacifica Beach Hotel
No camping here but hopefully tomorrow.
