It was an early start from Lincoln City today. We left at 11:30 am and it wasn't raining but it wasn't sunny, it was drizzling all day! But it was still kind of warm, not Italian warm for Patrizia but Canadian warm for Ellie!
We were surprised by the amount of traffic on Highway 101. It was constant all day. We had an hour break from traffic with a nice bicycle side road paralleling the highway. The bike route was right along the ocean, and if it wasn't for the mist and fog, we would have had excellent views!
There are two large centres here, Lincoln City and Newport, which is probably why there was more traffic than the first part of Oregon. The highway shoulders were pretty good except in some sections, and they were rough and bumpy. Overall, the drivers here are very bicycle friendly:-)!
The official photographer for the day was Patrizia because Ellie had everything packed away in plastic bags! She did a great job. Thanks to her, we have a few pictures to share!
There are many beach views along the way and we think the ocean views would have been great but visibility was really limited today. Lots of stops for beach access, etc. in this section.
We ended up in Waldport at a local motel. By coincidence, there were two other cyclists here also and both were heading south like us. It was funny that we all chose the same motel! We also met our motel neighbour when Patrizia was doing her bicycle tire rotation outside. Chatting a lot but we had to stop eventually!!!! Me Patrizia had to eat!
We had a great dinner in our hotel BUT... I still (Patrizia) crave May's crab because I believe that's the best! looking forward to that.. yummy!!!!
The weather is supposed to be better tomorrow and hopefully the traffic will be lighter or it will be earplugs on the highway!
