BLOG I DAY 23 I ITALY'S FOUR SEAS: A cycle tour along the Italian peninsula
October 06, 2023 Mola di Bari, Puglia - Trinitapoli, Puglia I 105.55 Km
This morning I opened the window of the hotel balcony where I admired the view of the seafront and the forecast and having looked at the sky promised another day of sunshine. Then I went down for breakfast and after saying hello to the person at the front desk who was very kind and then I left the hotel which is located in a good location right by the sea and within easy walking distance of the town and restaurants nearby and is very clean.
The tfirst stretch - After setting up the bicycle I realized that the bicycle wheel was on the ground and I had seen an open bicycle shop and I didn't want to repair the puncture again and I had it repaired by the owner named Pacquale, a nice guy. While he was repairing the wheel he told me that in the Torre Guaceo State Nature Reserve it is easy to get punctures because there are the invisible thorns of pine trees and local cyclists often use more reinforced tires to avoid punctures. These punctures are not easy to find pine thorn or thorns that it also took him some time to be sure there had only been one hole. Well, who knows how many turns of the wheel pass over the thorns of the pine trees but it's worth it because the inside of that park was an uncontaminated area!
The second stretch - Thanks to Pascquale and my day on the bike began, pedaling on the SS16 Adriatica until I reached the city of Bari, the capitalo Puglia.. Continuing along the seafront, a 15 kilometer promenade offering a view of the picturesque coastline and boasting the longest seafront in Italy and in Europe. I stopped to take some photographs of those beauties that surrounded me, including in Largo Gianella there was the very tall Ferris wheel, perhaps 50 meters high. It was a lovely experience passing by by bike!
The third stretch - Afterwards I continued and no, the same tire had deflated and at this point the safest thing was to find a cyclist and buy another wheel because I no longer trusted the tire I had. The shop had installed the new tire for me and then I left the busy city and continued pedaling along the coast, passing by seaside resorts including Trani is known for its picturesque seaport and historic cathedral s a seaport iconic seafront cathedral, the ancient village of Barletta , Trintapoli and the Salina di Margherita di Savoia nature reserve which extends over a strip approximately 20 km long, the most important maritime salt pan, located south of the Gulf of Manfredonia in Puglia.
The fourth stretch - Afterwards I continued and no, the same tire had deflated and at this point the safest thing was to find a cyclist and buy another wheel because I no longer trusted the tire I had. The shop had installed the new tire for me and then I left the busy city and continued pedaling along the coast, passing through seaside resorts including a picturesque city of Trani, its has pretty harbor and its beautiful waterside promenades, the town of Barletta and the last daily stop at the charming town Trintapoli in the province of Barletta-Andria-Trani.
The fifth stretch - Trintapoli I didn't know if there was a campsite in the vinaze and if it had been open and passing by the Hotel AIRONE I decided to spend one night. A nice place and there were also rooms with just a single bed, this had never happened to me before so why not try it and then I was alone and I wouldn't have needed a bigger room!
The last leg - After settling into my room and after a shower I had a walk in the very quiet little town which also had a nice square with beautiful palm trees. I stopped at a supermarket to purchase dinner which I then ate in my room. After my usual evening routine I looked at the map and tomorrow I will definitely cycle the Gargano peninsula, which I know already had already passed on another cycle tour but there will definitely be something new to discover and I fell asleep with the desire of my new tomorrow's day.
