BLOG I DAY 30 I ITALY'S FOUR SEAS: A cycle tour along the Italian peninsula
October 13, 2023 San Donà di Piave, Veneto - Trieste, Friuli Venezia Giulia I 121 Km
This morning at 7am I was already in the breakfast room, a buffet full of variety of choices of food and drinks of all kinds including fresh fruit, in short, nothing was missing, anyone with every taste could not find any problems, simply everything was there without forgetting the excellent display, truly incredible!
I stayed there for the longest time in the breakfast room because I had an appointment with the father who owns the hotel who would arrive at 7.30 and he would also have breakfast before he started working and I wanted to say goodbye to him before I left because it was truly a nice and sincere person with a smile and a lot of kindness and who loves his job!
The first stretch - Afterwards Ludovico kindly took me to get my bike and we had a chat and he was also an excellent person just like his father. He really wanted to know about my cycling trip in detail and I pleasantly described it and while we were talking other people brought the keys back to the front desk and he told them about me, in short I felt privileged because I had done this cycling trip, telling them that everyone I can do a cycling trip based in its own way on how many kilometers to cover in a day, etc. However, any person who undertakes this type of trip will bring with them great emotions that do not have to be compared with other faster cycling tourists, etc. Everyone has their own goal to follow which in the end is always a great internal satisfaction for everyone! I highly recommend this family-friendly hotel. After a hug and a hello to Ludovico and his father, my day on the two wheels of the little bicycle began under a cloudy sky.
The second stretch - After leaving the hotel I pedaled along the provincial road 54 which then after a roundabout I continued on the provincial road 42 with little trafficand views of farmland, then I passed the Livenza river which flowed very close to the houses where I took a photo of the clear river with a foggy sky but it wasn't raining.
The third stretch - Then I passed the localities of Sindacale, Lugnana, San a Michele al Tagliamento and then cross the Tagliamento river, which separates the Veneto region from Friuli Venezia Giulia and then I came across the sign with directions to Trieste. After which I continued to follow the same road passing through the localities of Pallazzolo della Stella, Muzzana del Turgnano, San Giorgio di Nogaro, Cervigiano del Friuli, Pieris, Monfacone and from this stretch the network of the Eruveo 8 Cilovia del Meditteraneo continues to flow on the same road - part Italia 8, then Duno and the panoramic views from the top of the coast are always magnificent. From Malfacone and the rest of the other places I had passed are located on the border between Italy and Slovenia.
The fourth stretch - Afer the town of Sistina I encountered the sign which indicated straight on to the provincial road SS 1 towards Prosecco and Trieste and the other sign was for the coastal road opposite the SR14 and is the continuation stretch of the Eurovelo 8 which runs along the coast up to in Trieste. But on another cycle touring trip I had already covered it but vice versa it is very beautiful and would also have little traffic given the low season.
The fifth stretch - So I took the provincial road SS 1 towards Prosecco and after having passed the town of Sistana for a few kilometres, the road gradually went uphill but there was little traffic reaching the town of Santa Croce, Prosecco and the height was 260 m at sea level it went downhill with a spectacular view of the Gulf of Trieste passing the sign with Trieste written and then the 68 meter high Vittoria Lighthouse and is located 60 meters above sea level.
Then further downhill and by coincidence she had arrived at the train station in the city of Trieste which is the capital city of the Friuli Venezia Giulia region.
The Last leg - When I arrived in the city of Trieste I went to buy a train ticket. Then I went to the seafront and looked around a bit. Afterwards I returned to the station and unfortunately there is no direct connection to the regional train when you have a bicycle and therefore I had to change three trains to Milan which is not easy when you have a loaded bicycle because you have to go up and down via elevator between a platform and the other and if they had to change platforms or if the train was late for the next train to take and how it happened to me I wasn't able to catch it and I had to wait for the next one which obviously I didn't know which platform it was and so an on and down by lift to the timetable. Well it wasn't a good return, changing all those trains and while on the way from Milan to Ventimiglia it was direct.
The arrival in Milan
And okay, a bit of a nuisance but I had arrived in Milan and my friends Roberta, Davide, my brother Claudio and his wife Elena had come to pick me up, also making them affected by the changes in my trains.
They welcomed me with smiles and you could see from their faces that they were happy to see me again and I received hugs and congratulations on my journey. I thank you very much for coming to pick me up and also for keeping me company during the trip and keeping you informed every day where I was.
Then, they loaded the bicycle into the car and the holiday ended with joy and with the desire for another cycling trip and who knows where I'll go!
And now let's talk about the end of the journey,
30 stages 30 days cycling without a day's break to discover the wonders of our country, which seen on a bicycle is even more beautiful! I cycled alone in full autonomy on the many varieties of roads and terrains, chatting with people who meet based on ages, all of whom gave me something special in my heart. I saw other cycle tourists who traveled in different directions than mine but who shared this desire to travel slowly without damaging what surrounds our planet, bringing home emotions that will be unspeakable over the years.
And this trip will never be the last cycling trip, just like my first trip which dates back years ago where I traveled across part of Europe for 4,684.1 km, pedaling over hills, mountain passes, between rivers and lakes and the Mediterranean sea. Despite the fatigue, there are the joys of a day spent on the saddle of your own bicycle. You encounter problems that you have to deal with (punctures, taking the wrong turn, broken bolts and much more) but the fact remains that it is a beautiful way of seeing our world by spinning the wheels without damaging it!
II want to thank my friends and family who always wanted to know about my progress and made me companions, you too in a different way were with me while I was pedaling and thanks also to Arturo the cycle tourist from Germany, a very good person I met by chance where we cycled together for a couple of days and also from him he made my days really different and also instructive. Without forgetting the people I cycled for a few minutes and also those who found me a B&B or those who gave me the best direction to take and my dog Izia who couldn't wait for me to return home and who made me happy parties when he sees me again. But I was sure that she was happy even during the trip, she was well taken care of with attention, long daily walks without forgetting her game that she loves - fetch the ball - Thank you so much to all of you!
coming soon
The end of of a magnificent cycling trip!
