BLOG I DAY 27 I ITALY'S FOUR SEAS: A cycle tour along the Italian peninsula
October 10, 2023 Cupra Marittima, Marche - Pesaro, Marche I 147 Km
This morning I obviously woke up early but it was a different day, it was my birthday and spending it on my bike was truly the best and generally I always celebrate it like this in the company of Sunflower, my bicycle friend. And I went down to have breakfast and it wasn't just me but there were other people who use the accommodation when they work far from where they live but not tourists. Hotel has a terrace and also has in 200 meters from its own private beach in Cupra Marittima
The first stretch - Today too, another sunny day and perfect temperature and after loading the panniers on the bicycle I started pedaling along the coast with little traffic since it was early. There are various cycle paths near a seaside but they are often not continuous and therefore it is a matter of exiting and entering from the main road where cars pass and then onto the cycle paths, which are beautiful but can be a nuisance to find because they are poorly signposted. What I had noticed when I saw the sign with the direction "Towards the Sea" was more than likely that there had been a cycle path.
And somewhere along the route I had to stop because I had punctured the rear wheel and after having repaired it I started pedaling again, always coasting along the coast, passing by seaside resorts that were now closed due to the low season with beautiful deserted beaches where I had stopped for about ten minutes to enjoy the surrounding panorama and take some photographs.
The second stretch - Once I left the place, I continued to pedal on flat ground, then I stopped again for a cappuccino in a coffee shop and I realized that I had lost a screw from the bicycle's shoes. At the table next to where I was sitting a very kind lady had seen that I was looking at the shoe and then having a chat she asked me if I needed a cycle shop a few meters from where there was one and I was in the locality of Porto Sant' Elpidoio. After thanking her I went to the shop.
The third stretch - Then, I arrived at the shop called TUTTTI CAMPIONI and immediately after I entered the shop, two smiles greeted me asking what I needed: one was the owner of Vincenzo Santoni's shop (he is an Italian road cyclist, active between 1980 and 1980).
With his enthusiasm he showed me the t-shirts he had won and exhibited photographs of his races and while Gabriel, his collaborator and also a cyclist, checked my brakes with such professionalism.
In the end Vicenzo gave me a cycling shirt "we are Tutti Camoioni/all champions" because it was my birthday, what unexpected kindness, I immediately put it on and before I left his shop he surprisingly interviewed me on his cell phone asking me questions on my trip and then I continued to cycle with joy wearing that beautiful cycling jersey!
The fourth stretch - After which I continued on the B16 Adriatica cycle path passing through other seaside towns and then arriving in Porto Recanati is a fishing village in the Conero Riviera. After leaving this location I took the road "Via Direttissima del Corneio" which wound through hilly terrain on a stretch of high coast which wound uphill reaching a height difference of 120m from the sea. And from that point a balcony with a spectacular view of the Conero Natural Park, then the town of Sirolo surrounded by agricultural land where I had come across the sign that said: Welcome to the pearl of the Adriatic and another panoramic view overlooking the sea Conero Riviera.
The fifth stretch - Then between the ups and downs of the road I coast the city of Ancona is a city and a seaport in the Marche region. Then starting on the B16 Adriatica cycle route, passing through other seaside towns and in the coastal town of Fano, I met a cyclist and for a few kilometers we pedaled together on the cycle/pedestrian path that connects the town of Fano to the town of Pesaro. A very beautiful 13 kilometer asphalted cycle path can be cycled a few steps from the sea near the coast and the bathing establishments with beautiful beaches and is well maintained and is also lit up at night.
It's truly a beautiful cycle path and the summer period certainly won't be as peaceful as I found it. When I arrived in Pesaro I had a chat with the cyclist and he told me that in this town there is a bicycle museum where 40 racing bicycles belonging to many eras of cycling are on display. While we were talking another cyclist had joined us but he was on a motorbike telling me that he had been on cycling trips. After recommending the accommodation at Amadei Hotel Figaro & Apartments, I thanked ther and went to settle in my room which was located about 5 minutes walk from Spiaggia di Levante. A very nice place to stay and very friendly staff.
The last leg - Afterwards I took a walk in the surrounding area and then had dinner in the hotel restaurant with a plate of spaghetti with clams but without a slice of cake because it was my birthday, I had already celebrated in a different way in the ALL CAMPIONI cycling shop which had been I was given the Cycling Jersey as a gift and then I received greetings via text message and some phone calls which also gave me some nice moments on my birthday. Thank you all! The evening ended with the desire to ride the next day further and further north and tomorrow I will certainly be in the Emilia-Romagna region and very close to the end of my cycling trip!
