We woke up very early today because the campground was full of early risers!  So, we packed up, had breakfast and set off at around 10:30am.  We followed San Andreas road out of Aptos.  There were many farms along the way, strawberries, artichoke and lettuce were the main crops we saw.  All the farm workers looked like they were working hard!

The road led us back onto the highway and we headed towards Moss Landing.  The freeway starts here so no bicycles were allowed.  But, there's a great bicycle route to follow that basically follows the freeway.  We rode off the freeway and were almost immediately flagged down by a nice man who called himself a Bicycle Angel.  He had maps, cold water, energy bars for cyclists.  This was his first day doing this.  He has bicycled a lot and now wanted to do this to give back to the many people who helped him in his travels.

The bicycle route took you onto a bike path that basically ran parallel to the freeway. This path goes through to Seaside and then into Monterey.  We took it for most of the way and ended up at the harbour area in Monterey.  The place was packed and had the fell of Granville Island in Vancouver!  We got a little off track but found our way back to the highway and carried on to Carmel.

This area was extremely busy and not much of a shoulder.  We were riding in a downhill section and a really kind driver told us to go ahead and he would hold the traffic back through this section!  What a great guy!  We sailed down the road and headed towards Big Sur.

The iconic Bixby Bridge, also known as the Bixby Creek Bridge, is a picturesque sight on the beautiful Big Sur Coast. The roadway across a wide and deep Big Sur creek and was completed in 1932 remains one of the tallest single-span concrete  deck arch bridge in the world, at 714 feet long. The bridge was the most impressive part on the  southern portion of the Big Sur coast on  on Highway 1 posizionato among the mountains along the scenic pacific coaast  (aside from the beauty of the entire route).

This is a beautiful section right along the water and it's very curvy, hilly and windy!  The view was incredible too but for sure, the wind was the highlight!  It was so strong at times it could have knocked you over easily.  We had a fun time balancing on the bicycles!  No speed records here, you have to be cautious!
