Orrido di Bellano/Gorge of Orrido Tour I Como Lake I Lombardy I Italy                                                     Added (12/2022)

The Orrido di Bellano is located in Bellano, a town in the province of Lecco which overlooks a splendid stretch of Lake Como. Orrido di Bellano is the main tourist attraction of Bellano and one of the most fascinating places to see on Lake Como.

This natural and very picturesque gorge was formed over the centuries, due to the erosion of the waters of the Pioverna torrent which, sculpting the valley floor, dug an increasingly narrower and deeper furrow that from Taceno reaches the Lario. Over the years this place has inspired many writers thanks to the atmosphere from which this place is seen with its dark artifacts and the echoing cube of tumultuous waters.

It offers incredible scenery for the whole route and it is passable by walking in the narrow path along a series of wooden and metal walkways hooked to the rock and suspended in the void that navigate throughout the interior for most of the path making a complete circuit in less than an hour.

We climbed some steps from the piazza in front of the Church of St Nazarius and Celsus in Bellano in order to reach the entrance to the site. We walk through pools located at the mouth of a rock and water pools that are a beautiful green / blue that are right at the base of the rock face, incredible vertical overhangs seen from the walkways, the surrounding green colours, and from the ravine you he sees the waterfall and who knows what else because there is just so much to admire! It was an incredible experience, awe-inspiring to see the power of nature as the water makes its way through the gorge, highly recommend it!

But it’s not the only sight to see - Bellano is also a place for hiking for trekking enthusiasts and near the Municipality, you'll find the Sentiero del Viandante a panoramic route that starts from Bellano ending in Varenna (about 8 km) through charming corners on the hills of Lake Como.

But there is also a long version of the path: the Sentiero del Viandante is a half-coast path that runs along the eastern shore of Lake Como, joining Lecco and Colico, is an old mule track from the Roman period. It starts near the Church of Saint Martin at Abbadia Lariana in the Province of Lecco and ends at a church called Madonna di Val Pozzo near Piantedo in the Province of Sondrio.

The path is about 45 km long e si puo fare anche con MTB con tracciati a tratti tecnico. Here is a MTB route on Kom
