The Monumental Cemetery is one of the two largest cemeteries in Milan, Italy, The Monumental Cemetery Milan is not only a large city cemetery, it is a jewel - an "open-air" museum among the most important in Italy in the history of the art of this building and vast monuments of funerary art.
The cemetery was built by the architect Carlo Mariachini between (1818 - 1899). It was created for all people in Milan to rest their loved ones and be enjoyed as a place to visit.
Carlo Mariachini had also created and was opened in 1872 an area intended for Isralite burials.
The main entrance of the cemetery dominates the largest and most imposing monument, the Famedio "Temple of Fame".
