The Tower of Fontanedo I Hiking or Walking  I Colico, Lecco I  Lombardy I Italy

The tower of Fontanedo (550 m) is located near the village of Fontanedo (part of Colico), Lecco and not too far from Robustello. The fortified complex known as "Torre di Fontanedo" dominates the Alto lake and Pian di Spagna at an altitude of 500 meters. Its origin dates back to the XII century. and

the purpose of the tower was the control of the ancient road halfway up the Monte Legnone, which connected the Valvarrone.

The medieval tower was built in a square shape in stone and internally covered with wood, it does not lack cracks and holes. It is 7.5 meters high.

We started from Villatico, Colico then following the signs for Via Fonatendo and parked the car in the town of Robustello. And from here we started following the path, following the signs along the mule track entering the uphill wooded path that leads to the tower.

It is possible to visit the entrance to the tower which is free for the residents of the city, and for those who live outside the municipal area or for tourists the cost is 4 euros. We were lucky it was open and almost closing but the kind person who worked there made us visit the tower explaining the history.

The way back we flollowed the same way where we had left the car

Part way along, a group of grazing goats followed us, keeping us company with their sound of bells around their necks and were very entertaining and curious!

A beautiful tower, incredible history and a breathtaking view!
