Saltspring Island is the jewel and largest of the Southern Gulf Islands. It is found in the Salish Sea between British Columbia's south coast mainland and Vancouver Island. The island has a mild and temperate climate which makes it a perfect year-round destination if you are looking to find a quiet place that really has all the ingredients for a perfect holiday; it offers a great weekend gateway to be immersed in a wonderful natural habitat.

It is absolutely the realm of sport for an outdoor holiday to be enjoyed and is perfect for hiking, cycling, water sports and for those wishing to see whales with various tours.

On Saltspring island there are several agricultural stands and farm self serve kiosks with local organic products where you can buy without personnel, just leave the money in the "honesty box" a real business model based on trust, a simple way and believing in honesty!

Without a doubt it is an island that is truly a wild, unspoilt place where time seems to pass at a slower pace that has relaxed to the rhythms of a bygone era and offers sustainable and alternative tourism.

Saltspring Island has so much to offer the visitor such as a vast unique selection of local arts and crafts, numerous art galleries, the Saturday farmers market, wine cellar tours, and farm tours. We always find something great to enjoy!

My visit to this island started with the ferry from Swartz Bay provide service to Tsawwassen (Vancouver) a Victoria (Swartz Bay) then to Saltspring Island (Fulford Harbour). Swartz Bay terminal is located at the end of Highway 17, to the north of Victoria on the Stanch peninsula of Vancouver Island. After that I camped at Ruckle Provincial Park which is one of the most beautiful parks in the Gulf Islands. You will find picnic tables scattered throughout grassy areas overlooking the ocean.

After leaving the magnificent island, the last stop before returning home was to visit the city of Victoria, it is located in Vancouver Island and is the capital of British Columbia, even though I knew it from past visits I still explored by foot for a few hours by strolling through the gorgeous Victoria harbour, it's always nice to revisit it!.

I explored:

Ruckle Herritage Farm

Burgoyne Bay Provincial Park is a popular trail area for hiking, running, mountain biking, and horseback riding.

Mount Maxwell Provincial Park is located on Burgoyne Bay and the Sansum Narrow on the western shores of Salt Sping Island

Victoria is the capital of British Columbia, even if I knew it
