Raccoon - Stanley Park

To start this cycling adventure, there is  nothing better than this cycling trip around the famous Stanley Park (it’s a real forest in the city) following the Seawall. The cycle paths are organized for the direction to take. There are cycle paths along the sea and also points inside, some of these are to points within the park and some are not paved but all have a spectacular views of the North Shore mountains and the Lions Gate Bridge. Exploring Stanley Park is a fun way to start another journey from the Lions Gate Bridge, which is the western gateway to West Vancouver and to North Vancouver.

Crossing the Lions Gate bridge on a bike paths is shared between bicycles and pedestrians. A relaxing ride with breathtaking beauty!

You can also ride along the streets of Vancouver, and then arrive at the Lions Gate bridge, with views of Vancouver”s many skyscrapers and new buildings that display many architectural innovations. All together they are in harmony and combined well with breathtaking scenery.

However, it is a pity that these skyscrapers do not have green balconies, it would be worthwhile to see living balconies to create a domestic green space in one’s own apartment such as with your own personal herb garden! More greenery in buildings would join the wonderful panoramas already here and would help the environment and to oxygenate the the planet.

To reach the north shore, you can also take the Sea Bus that takes you from downtown Vancouver to Lonsdale Quay which in North Vancouver, and from here you can then reach West Vancouver.

We preferred to walk the cycle paths on the sea edge (more panoramic) and then to cross the Lions Gate bridge along the road that led to the beginning of the corridor towards the Sea-to-Sky highway. The Sea-to-Sky highway is a varied route with many viewpoints; the coast, with so many islands, and the mountains, with slopes and great forests, what beauty! Along the way there are plenty of attractions along this route to see and many scenic spots to stop

Day 01: Vancouver a Whistler

The route is along the famous Sea-to-Sky Highway corridor (also known as Highway 99) between Vancouver to Whistler that offers  stunning  views of Howe Sound and the Coast Mountains; it is a winding highway and is one of the most scenic routes in the world.

We left Vancouver on a day with somewhat uncertain weather conditions, sunshine, cloudy skies and rain.

When we almost arrived in Whistler while pedalling in a street with little light (despite the light of my bicycle) suddenly and unpredictably a bear came out of the thick bushes to cross the road without my realizing that it was there it was so silent and invisible in the moment that I passed. Only my travel companion who was pedalling far from me had noticed and with its high tone of voice the bear immediately ran into the bushes and at that moment left a great noise of the bear fleeing!

Then, we stopped to do some shopping in the centre of the town which is pedestrian only and many shops. It was a very lively place!

We found a nice campsite in the middle of nature with a nice pitch. There was also a fishnet bag for (bear bag). At night there were raccoons around and in the morning the footprints but no bears!
