Grosio is an ancient village in the province of Sondrio in the Italian region of Lombardy. The spectacular Rock Engravings Park is located here which is legacy of the ancient populations of the Valtellina.

Inside the park there is the Rupe Magna, an extensive rock that retains more than five thousand figures engraved and one of the largest rock carvings in the Alpine region. These figures were engraved from the 4th to the 1st millennium BC.

On the top of the hill are two medieval castles that were built in different historical periods and share the characteristics of a fortified

structure.

Castle of S. Faustino (also known as the Old Castle) had a purely defensive function and was constructed in the 11th century by the Bishops of Como.

The Visconti Venosta Castle (also known as the New Castle) was built in the 14th century by the Visconti family.

To visit these beauties you only need to park the car and then follow the path that leads to castles.
