Milan On Foot - Tour #3 Estate di San Martino/Indian Summer Loop Around Milan, Lombardy Italy
Milano is a wonderful, charming global city that is a perfect combination of a modern and authentic Italian city that make it an ideal destination for lovers of history, extraordinary architecture, iconic art culture, Italian food, tourism, fashion and design. Milan is designed with walkability in mind and thanks to my friend Roberta, my tour guide took me walking and getting to know places she knows very well and thanks to her I had the opportunity to discover this tour and to discover the most modern area of Milan and its fascinating skyline. Next, we followed Corso Como a very cozy trendy area that is a pedestrian and commercial street in the centre of Milan, then visiting the Brera district and the Chinatown district and going back more or less in the same way as well as we stopped at see the Central Station and finishing the tour at Cassina de’ Pomm, our starting point.
Highlights:
• Cassina de' Pomm is one of the oldest intact courtyard country farmhouses.
• The Centro Direzionale is s the modern business centre of Milan and is a neighbourhood located north-west of the city centre called il progetto Porta Nuova.
• Palazzo Lombardia is a complex of buildings and the headquarters of the region of Lombardia and also where the Belvedere terrace is situated.
• The Biblioteca degli Alberi/BAM Tree Library Milanis a public with contemporary landscape designproperty of the City of Milan, maintained and managed by the Riccardo Catella Foundation.
• Bosco Vertical - which means vertical forest. It is a pair of two tall residential buildings with trees on each balcony. a Cool part of town!
• The area is divided into three zones: Porta Nuova Garibaldi, Porta Nuova Varesine and Porta Nuova Isola.
• Gae Aulenti square is a trendy and modern square and named after Italy's most famous female (Cesar Pelli) architect. it is close to the centre and is a large zone free of cars, (with vehicle traffic passing underground) and green areas are being built
• Egg is called Voci delle Citta (The City of Voices) is a first permanent artwork of art created by Alberto Garutti. It is a construction of 23 chromed brass tubes, which extend over four floors where you can talk through them while listening to sounds and changes of words.
• The towers: Palazzo Lombardia, Torri Garibaldi, Torre Gaifa, a part of the Torre Diamante, the Grataciello Pirelli, the residential towers (Solaria Solea and Aria), and thefamous UniCredit, headquarters of the anonymous is a skyscraper with the height of 231 meters, it is the tallest building in Italy.
• Corso Como is a very pretty corner of Milan and is mostly a pedestrian area with charming ringhiera houses with many shops, fashion, cafes and is well known for its multitude of restaurants, bars and discos. • Quartire di Brera - The Pinacoteca di Brera (Brera Art Galley) is the main public gallery for paintings in Milan, Italy.

• Chinatown is one of the oldest and largest Chinese districts in Italy and extends along Via Paolo Sarpi and its surroundings.

MILAN ON FOOT: Here is the Itinerary and the path of the unusual secret places and hidden streets that I visited thanks to my friend Roberta!
We started the tour at Cassina de' Pomm, which in Milanese means apple farmhouse, and is one of the oldest intact courtyard country farmhouses in the city. It is located at Via Melchiorre Gioia overlooking the Naviglio della Martesana. The famous Martesana a beautiful cycle and pedestrian path that starts from here. I cycled ride it you can visit it by clicking here. From that corner of paradise it didn't even seem like we were in the metropolis of Milan!
After seeing the farmhouse and the waters of the canal, we headed for the Centro Direzionale, the modern business centre of Milan is a neighbourhood that is located north-west of the city centre at the Porta Nuova, between the two important railway stations Centrale and Porta Garibaldi.
Several events and markets are held in this place, and when taking place, there were two events: The Eagle turns 100 years old - Moto Guzzi and the Pickle-ball championship
After that we went to the main business district of Milan, Porta Nuova, which is one of the six main gates of Milan. The names of the other gates are: Porta Venezia, Porta Romana, Porta Ticinese, Porta Magenta, Porta Garibaldi and Porta Nuova.
Porta Nuova in Italian means “new gate", and is a large corner of Milan with an area of 290,000 square m which in 2000 was started the project of transforming an old part of the town that was in decay decay for some time but has been totally changed when the new buildings were made, and the entire area flourished again transforming it into a modern part of Milan. It shows the modern mixed with the classical and is a great mixture!
The area has a surrounding of modern office buildings, skyscrapers with an urban feel, having marvellous residential spaces, retail outlets and restaurants. It is a quite a big area and nice place to relax to be outside and to explore!

After which we crossed the area Il Parco Biblioteca degli Alberi where there is the The Bosco Verticale "The Vertical Forest”, which is made up of two modern towers of 110 and 76 meters high, built by Studio Stefano Boeri Architetti. Their facades and terraces contain more than 900 trees. The aim was to create a biological habitat, with increasing biodiversity and also to provide an ecosystem approach that encourages the alignment of cities with natural systems.
BAM Parco Biblioteca degli Alberi/BAM Tree Library, (also called La Biblioteca degli Alberi) is a public park & Garden is a magnificent botanical and contemporary landscape located in the Porta Nuova district and joins Piazza Gae Aulenti, the Isola district, via Melchiorre Gioia and the lush green spaces of Varesine. It is place surrounded by modern & architectural skyscrapers and is a perfect place to take a stroll in this urban green park!
Gae Aulenti square is a trendy and modern square and is named after Italy's most famous female architect. This area has a surrounding of modern office buildings, retail outlets and restaurants. It is a quite a big area and is a nice outdoor place to relax and to explore!

Palazzo Lombardia is the institutional seat of the Regional Council and is a complex of buildings, including a 43-story skyscraper 161 m (528 ft) high. At the foot of the skyscraper is Piazza Lombardia of the Lombardy Region and the largest in Europe. From this building you can visit the Belvedere which is open to the public. The elevator takes you to the 39th floor to admire the panoramic view of the city. The whole area of the city is one of the main business districts of Milan, it has a very modern look, with skyscrapers and an urban atmosphere and offers a distinct atmosphere very different from the Centro Storico.
At the foot of the Palazzo Lombardia is "Piazza Citta' di Lombardia" a large covered square (the surface is about 3800 square meters) with a panoramic and Gorgeous Glass Ceiling creates a massive glass and steel window. This cover areas offers an "outdoor" event space, no matter what the weather and is the largest covered square in Europe. The square hosts a variety of shops such as: clothes shops, several restaurants, coffee shops and more.
