At Sala Comacina there is the famous green way of the lake that is a 10 km route divided into five stages: Colonno, Sala Comacina, Ossuccio, Lenno, Mezzegra, Tremezzo, Griante.

Then, I continued on the shore of the lake passing: Tremezzina, Tremezzo, where there is the Villa Carlotta and botanical garden, Menaggio where the a beautifully renovated historical building Grand Hotel Menaggio is located. From this point you reach the cycle path that winds along the lake until you reach Dongo.

Dongo is a beautiful village with several campsites located on the shores of the lake, many trekking excursions, water sports and much more. There is also an important historical event - it was the scene of Benito Mussolini‘s attempted escape in WWII. While trying to reach Switzerland, he was recognized by a group of partisans in the village of Dongo and was captured by partisan forces on Apri 27th, 1943 and then was executed in the locality of Azzano (currently hamlet of Tremezzina).  There is a cross that stands on the exact spot where the fascist leader was executed.

it was a bit dark and the path was uphill but not too long from Dongo and I went to see Mussolini's tombstone.
