A little bit about Como. Como is a city at the southern tip of Lake Como in Lombardy. It's known for the Gothic Como Cathedral, a scenic funicular railway (cable car) that links Lake Como near the lake waterfront to the top of a hill in the little village of Brunate at 1,894m. The village of Brunate is located about 700 metres above sea level. Brunate is also called the "Balcony on the Alps” where you can enjoy panoramic views of Lake Como and the surrounding area.
I was lucky enough to be there during the Christmas for La Citta' dei Ballochi "the City of Toys" 2021-2022 ( to walk through the streets of the Lario city and enjoy the enchantment of Christmas spirit and to see a spectral light display consisting of thousands of lights and colours, between games, markets and wood houses. Part # 5 These are stages passing through the main municipalities of Bellaggio, San Giovanni, Vergognese, Casate, Lezzeno, Carvagnana, Nesso (seat of a well known gorge created by the union of two streams and the Orrido di Nesso/Ravine of Nesso is famous; you can watch my tour by clicking here), Careno, Pognana Lario, Villa Pliniana, Torno (an attractive old town), Blevio and then arriving in the city of Como.
After exploring Bellagio and having our snack at the bar overlooking the lake, we continued pedalling the last stretch along the ridge of the Lariano Triangle, along the SS583, being on the wilder and more isolated side, through the ups and downs, where you can admire villas overlooking the waters of the lake and mountains. The Lecco, Bellaggio and Como sections are sections with greater elevation gain and more demanding.
Despite the cold day, especially in the stretches where you ride in the shade, but there is always the waters of the lake to admire and above all we did not find much traffic since it was not in the summer season where it was populated by tourists or local people on vacation. So we were really able to enjoy this ring tour of the Lario. Our tour of the Lario ring is over and beautiful moments remain in our hearts among beautiful secondary roads that pass through tunnels (no cars), beautiful villas and hamlets, views of the surrounding mountains, the lakefront of cycle paths and incredible panoramic vistas of Lake Como.
