Bicycle Tour Around Como Lake -  Part #5  Lecco -  Bellaggio - Lombady - Italy

A little about Lecco. Lecco is an incredible city full of history, beauty and fantastic trails for trekking and excursions. The mountains of Lecco and its surroundings are many including: La Grigna, Grignetta (see my Hike CLICK HERE), Pian dei Resinellli (see my Hike CLICK HERE) and many others. The highest Lecco mountain is the Resegone also known as Monte Serrada with the unmistakable high saw shape (1,875m).

About a few minutes from the centre of the city of Lecco one will find the Piani d'Erna cable car and from the top you can see amazing views of the surrounding landscapes. As an alternative you can hike up to Piani d'Erna and go down by cable car. I was supposed to do this hike the  week before but unfortunately the cable car was closed due to strong winds! However, the panoramic view from above was described to me!

Part # 5 These are stages passing through the main municipalities of Bellaggio, San Giovanni, Vergognese, Casate, Lezzeno, Carvagnana, Nesso (Orrido di Nesso), Careno, Pognana Lario, Villa Pliniana, Torno, Blevio and then arriving in the city of Como

After having skirted Lecco’s lakefront on the cycle/pedestrian path, you will come across the sign "cyclovia del laghi". It is a journey of just over 50km which always follows the shores of the lake. Then, we cycled over the John Ftzgeral Kennedy Bridge, also known as Ponte Nuovo built over the waters of the Adda river which connects the municipality of Lecco to the municipality of Malgrate, a beautiful corner where you can admire the surrounding mountains, along with the beautiful cycle-pedestrian lakefront and of course the beautiful lake.

Then we continue on the main road (SP 583), we didn't find it busy, I don't know if it was because it was winter and with its ups and downs but not difficult and we reached Bellaggio.

Bellaggio is nestled at the tip of a promontory, in the middle of the Y-shape that characterizes the area’s geography. It is the point where the division between the two of the three branches that form Lake Como is born.

This jewel of a town is incredibly beautiful where we strolled the picturesque alleyways, narrow streets, interesting houses and villas, small shops, and quaint restaurants with outside tables. It was here that we made a stop in a restaurant located under a portico with outdoor tables near the ferry terminal. After relaxing briefly and having a good sandwich and enjoying the view of the lake and the ferries and people walking, we then continued on the last stretch which ended in Como city.

After exploring Bellagio and having our snack at the bar overlooking the lake, we continued pedalling along the SS583, this wilder and more isolated side, passing through Torno (an attractive old town) and Nesso (seat of a well known gorge created by the union of two streams).
