Monte Legnone Hike Lombardy Italy

Monte Legnone at 2,609 meters high is the highest peak in the Lake Como area. It is possible to see it from both brianza and milan. The summit offers a breathtaking view of the lake and surrounding mountains. From Lake Como you can admire M. Legnone and is clearly visible from its gigantic pyramidal formation.

The route

This mountain is between Valsassina and Valtellina. There are basically three ridges. The west, the east and the south. The west ridge is the most well known. We started from ref. Roccoli dei Lorla (1460 slm) which is located in the west.

The trail begins near the refuge at a place where we parked the car and the path begins nearby where you meet the trail sign. The path passes through the Argogno pasture from which it will begin to open panoramic windows and enjoy beautiful basic views of the surrounding mountains of  the Valtellina.

We arrived in the vicinity of the Silvestri Bivouac (Cà de legn) / the route definitely becomes more challenging, arduous and steep when you arrive at the ridge where you can enjoy a view from all sides and with the help of some metal cabling (already existing on the walls) to assist as you reach the top.

With the help of some metal cabling (already existing on the walls) you reach the summit where there are ibex and you can admire stunning views  of the upper lake, the Orobie Valtellinesi and the Valchiavenna mountains.

This is a superb hike on the highest mountain of the Orobie Lecchesi!
