Castel Grumello is a 13th century castle located in the Municipality of Montagna in Valtellina in the province of Sondrio. The castle stands at the top of a rocky knoll and is surrounded by the famous hectares of vineyards where the Grumello wine and trails are produced. From that point it dominates the splendid overhanging panorama of the Valtellina and the city of Sondrio.
Castello de Piro al Grumello, more commonly known as Castel Grumello (Grumello Castle), is a “twin” castle, made up of two twin castles joined together, one military and the other residential.
In one of the paths that descend from the Castle you pass through the Ristoro Castel Grumello which is a FAI restaurant and is also surrounded by spectacular views. The Fondo Ambiente Italiano ((FAI) is the National Trust of Italy. The organisation was established in 1975 as the Fondo Ambiente Italiano, based on the model of the National Trust of England, Wales, & Northern Ireland. It is a private non-profit organisation and has over 190,000 members as of 2018.
The Castle is easily accessible and there is free parking near the castle. The route passes through vineyards and you will soon arrive at the thirteenth century ruins.
