Left 08:30 Trebisacce via Nova Siri - Scanzano - Taranto
After Tribisacce, continue north to Novi Siri and San Zano to Taranto. There will be progressively more crowding and the roads will get busier, although the section will be generally flat. It is not really exciting in terms of scenery.
Taranto is a fascinating town and is worth walking about especially in the old city. It will have all the major conveniences and headaches. I found of much of the buildings and old churches interesting. There are many ships and sailors since it is a major port.
There are a great variety of seafoods and oddly a beer called (Raffi) is everywhere but only in this area.
As in any southern Italian town, the streets are filled to capacity in the evening as the "passagiata” which is short walk that the locals will do. It is quite a phenomena to see almost everyone walking about and socializing in the street and seems like a great idea - it costs nothing and seems a much more civilized way to meet people than the typical north America single scene dominated by bars and drinking.
