Halifax, the capital and largest city of Nova Scotia, sits on Canada’s Atlantic coast and offers a vibrant mix of history, culture, and scenic waterfronts a perfect starting point for exploring the province’s maritime beauty.
A short drive from Halifax brings you to Peggy’s Cove, a charming fishing village nestled on rugged granite rocks and home to the iconic Peggy’s Cove Lighthouse. This striking white lighthouse with its red top is one of Canada’s most photographed landmarks and a true symbol of Nova Scotia’s maritime heritage.
Walking across the rugged rocks surrounding the lighthouse offers breathtaking views of the Atlantic Ocean and the village itself. It’s the perfect spot to climb the rocks, feel the fresh sea breeze, and fully immerse yourself in the stunning natural beauty of Nova Scotia’s coastline.
Strolling through the village with my friend Angela, we discovered colourful fishing boats, lobster traps, quaint seaside houses, and charming shops, all contributing to the village’s authentic maritime charm. The crashing waves, salty sea breeze, and friendly locals made our visit even more memorable.
Nearby, the William E. deGarthe Memorial Provincial Park showcases stunning natural beauty, with rugged cliffs, rocky shores, and inspiring ocean vistas. The park is a tribute to the renowned artist, offering a wonderful combination of art, history, and nature.
After exploring the village and coastline, we enjoyed some of the freshest Nova Scotia seafood, with lobster as the specialty a perfect ending to a day full of adventure and scenic beauty.
Whether exploring on foot, climbing the rocks, or simply soaking in the views, Peggy’s Cove is more than a destination it’s a real-life experience that captures the heart of Nova Scotia’s maritime culture, natural beauty, and warmth.
