Livigno Ski Resort: Alta Valtellina, Sondrio, Lombardy, Italy

Livigno is a charming ski resort town located at 1,816 m in the heart of the Italian Alps, near the Swiss border in the province of Sondrio. Known as “Little Tibet” due to its freezing winter temperatures, Livigno is a paradise for mountain lovers, offering unforgettable experiences both in winter and summer.

In winter, Livigno boasts excellent snow conditions throughout the season, attracting elite athletes and Olympic gold medalists for training. The ski area features 115 slopes ranging from 1,800 to nearly 3,000 meters, including 12 black runs, 37 red runs, and 29 blue runs, making it one of the most well-equipped ski resorts in the Alps.

In summer, Livigno transforms into a haven for outdoor activities: trekking, climbing, and scenic walks through a mix of Italian and Austrian architecture. The town also has a historic duty-free area, adding to its unique charm.

Food lovers will delight in local specialties such as pizzoccheri, polenta taragna, Bresaola Valtellinese, and Alpine cheeses, while nature enthusiasts can enjoy the region’s rich flora and fauna. Wildlife includes deer, ibex, chamois, marmots, and golden eagles, while plants range from larches and stone pines to Edelweiss, Glacier Buttercup, and Alpine asters.

During our visit, we drove from Tirano to Livigno approximately 53 minutes. After parking, we explored the town and enjoyed a delightful lunch. My friends savored Polenta Taragna and Pizzoccheri with braised meat, while I enjoyed a fresh bruschetta a perfect meal amid the Alpine scenery.

Livigno truly combines breathtaking landscapes, outdoor adventures, rich traditions, and local gastronomy, making it a must-visit destination in Lombardy.
