For a truly epic cycling challenge, Vancouver riders take on a route known as the Triple Crown, which links the North Shore Mountains Cypress, Grouse, and Mount Seymour in a single ride. Cyclists climb up each mountain, descending back toward sea level in between.

There are several route variations, but most Triple Crown rides cover approximately 75 km with about 2,300 metres of climbing roughly the same elevation gain as the ride from Vancouver to Whistler, but over a much shorter distance. Each year, the route is also featured in charity rides, attracting cyclists looking to test their endurance and skill.

I started at Cypress Mountain, a famous climb from West Vancouver. The ascent is steep and continuous, with gradients often between 6–10%. The road winds through dense forests, offering occasional glimpses of the city and the ocean below. Cypress challenges both legs and mind, demanding focus and steady pacing, while the descent is a liberating reward of speed, freedom, and exhilaration.

Next was Grouse Mountain, a shorter but intense climb with sharp switchbacks and steep ramps that push every cyclist to their limit. The summit opens to sweeping views of Vancouver and the surrounding mountains. The descent is fast, thrilling, and well-earned after such a powerful climb.

Finally, I tackled Mount Seymour, the longest and most demanding climb of the Triple Crown. Unlike the other two mountains, Seymour requires sustained endurance rather than raw power. The road winds through lush forests and opens up to vistas of the Seymour Valley and distant cityscapes. Reaching the summit marks a deeply rewarding conclusion to the ride a perfect way to finish this epic challenge.

Although the scenery may not rival some of the European passes I’ve done, the sense of accomplishment was undeniable. Completing all three passes in a single day is a rare personal achievement, blending physical challenge, mental focus, and the pure joy of cycling through Vancouver’s stunning landscapes.
