Cycle Tour #3: Day 16 Crotone
September 25, Soverato - Ciro Marina 122.1 Km
Left 8:30 hotel at edge of sea. Hot morning, hot day.
From Soverato there is some hill climbing to cross Isola di Capo Rizzuto and head inland. Much of the coastline in this area is beaches and there is a commercial camping area, although it is not heavily populated.
After Capo Rizzuto it feels a little isolated which is surprising in Italy.
Continue up the shoreline past Crotone and eventually up to Ciro Marina. There are some great hotels that seem to obtain their business from a tourist rush in August followed by typical restaurant business for weddings and receptions to keep afoot the rest of the year.
Ciro Marina is famous among Italians for its wines and you will see some major vineyards on the way in.
